The crank handle can be removed and you can use a 3/8" socket wrench instead which reduces the width even further.

It is possible to use a standard 12V power supply rated at 1000ma (1amp). You can then cut the connector off at the end and attach it to the fan end cables.

Most cleaners are fine eco friendly or not. Don't use chlorine based cleaners.
